Comparison for eBay sellers

Can ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, or Copilot price my item?

General AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, and Microsoft Copilot are useful tools, and many sellers already use them. Here is a balanced look at what they do well for reselling, where a general assistant is not built for the job, what Strooply does differently, and how to use both.

Disclosure: Strooply is made by The Stroop LLC, the publisher of this page. ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Claude, and Microsoft Copilot are trademarks of their respective owners. Strooply is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, or Microsoft. Details about Gemini, Claude, and Copilot come from Google, Anthropic, and Microsoft's own help and documentation pages as of October 8, 2026 and are cited below. OpenAI's help pages did not load for our review, so this page makes no ChatGPT-specific claims. Plans and features change, so check each vendor's site before you decide.
The short answer

Can a general AI assistant price an item?

An assistant can look at a photo, suggest what an item might be, and help with wording, and its vendor tells you to double-check what it says.[1][3] The help pages we reviewed describe photo uploads and answers, not a connection to eBay sold-listing records, so any price it gives depends on what you check or paste in. Strooply is built for the eBay part: live eBay comps and a sold-price estimate labeled as live data or an AI estimate, a draft you review, and profit tracking. Many sellers use an assistant for wording and Strooply for the numbers.

Step by step

The eBay workflow: Strooply vs general AI assistants

Each row follows an item from the moment you find it to the moment its profit is recorded. The assistant column covers Gemini, Claude, and Copilot, the three whose own pages we could read.

Strengths and limits of each

Where general assistants are strong

They take photos and plain-language questions, handle a very wide range of topics, and can draft or reword text on request.[1][2][4] That makes them handy for polishing a description, brainstorming keywords, or explaining a concept in plain words.

Where they fall short for reselling

Their vendors say answers can be wrong and should be checked.[1][3] The pages we reviewed do not describe live eBay sold records, cost or profit tracking, or publishing a listing, so those steps stay manual unless you bring the data yourself.

What Strooply does differently

Photo identification, live eBay comps, and a sold-price estimate in one step, each labeled as live eBay data or an AI estimate, then an AI eBay draft you review and one profit number per item.

Where Strooply has limits

Strooply is built for eBay resellers, not general questions. A sold-price estimate marked as an AI estimate is still an estimate, and publishes and lookups are capped by plan, so check a few recent sold listings on eBay for anything valuable.

Worth knowing about general AI assistants: They are flexible tools that improve over time, and the pages we reviewed describe image upload in Gemini, Claude, and Copilot today.[1][2][4] If you already pay for one, you do not need to stop using it to use Strooply.

A general AI assistant may be the better choice if

  • You mainly want help with wording, such as rewriting a description or drafting a message to a buyer.[4]
  • You want to ask open-ended questions about an item's history, materials, or care, and you will confirm the answers yourself.[1][3]
  • You sell occasionally and do not need cost or profit tracking.
Using both

How to use both

  • Use an assistant for wording help: tightening a title, reorganizing a description, or checking that you mentioned flaws and measurements.
  • Treat any price an assistant gives as a starting guess and check it against recent sold listings on eBay before you buy or list.
  • If you paste sold prices into an assistant, copy them from the sold listings yourself so the numbers it works from are real.
  • Check fee amounts against eBay's current fee pages, or use the Strooply eBay fee calculator, rather than relying on a figure from memory.
  • Use Strooply for the eBay steps: comps, the draft, publishing after your review, and profit. Read Strooply vs Google Lens if you also use Lens to identify items.
Questions

Strooply vs general AI assistants FAQ

Can ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, or Copilot tell me what my item sold for on eBay?

The help pages we reviewed for Gemini, Claude, and Copilot describe uploading photos and getting answers, not a connection to eBay sold-listing records.[1][2][4] We could not read OpenAI's help pages, so we make no claim about ChatGPT. Whatever assistant you use, confirm a price against recent sold listings on eBay. Strooply pulls live eBay comps and a sold-price estimate from a photo and labels each as live data or an AI estimate.

Are the prices an assistant gives me reliable?

Google says Gemini Apps can make mistakes and to double-check responses, and Anthropic says to review Claude's image interpretations.[1][3] Treat an assistant's price as a guess to verify. Strooply's sold-price figure can also be an AI estimate, which the app labels, so verify high-value items there too.

Can an assistant write my eBay listing?

It can draft and reword text you ask for.[4] Strooply drafts the title, description, category, condition guidance, and item specifics from your photos for you to review, and nothing publishes until you confirm.

Should I use an assistant and Strooply together?

Many sellers can. An assistant is useful for wording and open-ended questions, and Strooply covers the eBay comps, draft, publishing, and profit tracking. See the tips above for how to split the work.

Which one costs less?

Strooply has a free plan with no credit card and paid plans from $12.99 per month. We did not review the assistants' plans for this page, so check each vendor's site.
