Depop fees explained, and how they compare with eBay
If you sell from the United States, Depop states that it charges you no selling fee. You still pay payment processing on every sale, and an optional boost costs extra. eBay works the other way round: it takes a percentage final value fee on the whole sale, and says there is no separate payment processor fee on top. This page lays out both fee structures from each company's own page, runs a sample sale through them, and shows where the two diverge. It covers US sellers; Depop's fees differ by country.

What Depop charges a US seller
- Selling fee: none. Depop states that no Depop selling fees are charged to sellers based in the US, the UK, or Australia.[1]
- Payment processing: 3.3% plus $0.45 for US sellers using Depop Payments, charged on the item price plus shipping and any applicable taxes.[1]
- Boosted Listings (optional): 12% for US and UK sellers on new listings from March 23, 2026, charged on the item sale price (excluding taxes) plus shipping if you did not use a Depop Shipping label.[1]
- When you pay: if you sell with Depop Payments, the fees are deducted before the sale proceeds go to your bank account.[1]
Some older guides still describe a flat 10% on every Depop sale. That rate now applies, on Depop's page, to sellers outside the UK, US, and Australia who sell in a currency other than GBP, USD, or AUD.[1]
Depop seller fees by country
Depop publishes one fee article for all sellers, split by where you are based. These are the rows it states.
| Where you sell from | Depop selling fee | Payment processing | Boosting fee (optional) |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | None[1] | 3.3% + $0.45 via Depop Payments (Stripe)[1] | 12% on new listings from March 23, 2026[1] |
| United Kingdom | None[1] | 2.9% + GBP 0.30 via Depop Payments[1] | 12% on new listings from March 23, 2026[1] |
| Australia | None[1] | 2.6% + 0.30 AUD via Depop Payments[1] | 8%[1] |
| Elsewhere, selling in a currency other than GBP, USD, or AUD | 10% on the item price (excluding taxes), plus shipping if you did not use a Depop Shipping label[1] | Paid to PayPal; varies with your location and PayPal account setup[1] | 8%[1] |
The page ties these fees to sales made through the BUY button.[1] It does not describe a listing fee or a monthly fee, so we do not state one.
Processing, boosts, refunds, and bundles
Payment processing is the fee that applies to you
For a US seller, the 3.3% plus $0.45 is calculated on more than the item price. Depop says the base is the item price plus shipping costs and any applicable taxes.[1] A fixed part of the fee hits low-priced items harder than expensive ones, in the same way a per order fee does anywhere.
Boosted Listings cost a percentage, only on a sale
The boosting fee is 12% for US and UK sellers on new listings from March 23, 2026, and 8% for sellers elsewhere. It is charged on the item price (excluding taxes) and on shipping if you did not use a Depop Shipping label.[1] If you never boost a listing, this line does not apply to you.
Refunds reverse the fees
If a sale is refunded, Depop says the selling fee, the payment processing fee, and any boosting fee are reversed. For Depop Payments transactions this happens automatically.[1]
Bundles
Outside the UK and US, the selling fee applies to each item in a bundle, while processing applies once per bundle transaction.[1] The page does not give a separate US bundle rule.
Where to see what you paid
In the Depop app, open My Depop, tap My Account, tap Depop Balance, then scroll to Latest Transactions.[1]
How eBay fees work for the same seller
eBay charges two main kinds of selling fee: an insertion fee when you create a listing, and a final value fee when the item sells.[2]
- Insertion fees: each month includes up to 250 listings with no insertion fee, then $0.35 per listing in most categories.[2]
- Final value fee: in most categories, 13.6% of the total amount of the sale up to $7,500, plus a per order fee of $0.30 on orders of $10 or less and $0.40 on orders over $10.[2]
- What counts as the total: the item price, handling charges, shipping collected from the buyer (some exceptions apply), sales tax, and other applicable fees.[2]
- Payment processing: eBay says you do not have to worry about third-party payment processing fees on top of the final value fee.[2]
- Category rates differ. For example, books and magazines carry 15.3% and women's bags and handbags carry 15% on sales of $2,000 or less.[2]
- Performance: sellers evaluated as Below Standard pay an additional 6% on final value fees in the following month.[2]
eBay Store subscribers, vehicle sellers, and eBay Live sellers have different fee pages.[2] This page uses the standard rates for most categories. Run your own item through the eBay fee calculator for a category-specific figure.
The same sale on Depop and on eBay
These are sample numbers we chose, not data about real sales. They use the rates above for a US seller with no boost, no sales tax, and an eBay item in a most-categories listing. Sales tax would raise the base on both sites. The shipping label cost is not counted on either side.
| Line | Depop (US seller) | eBay (most categories) |
|---|---|---|
| Selling or final value fee | $0.00[1] | 13.6% of $25.00 = $3.40[2] |
| Per-order fee | Not applicable[1] | $0.40 (order over $10)[2] |
| Payment processing | 3.3% of $25.00 + $0.45 = $1.28 (rounded)[1] | None stated beyond the final value fee[2] |
| Total fees | $1.28[1] | $3.80[2] |
| Left from the $25.00 collected | $23.72[1] | $21.20[2] |
At a $20 item price, the sample fee gap is $2.52 in Depop's favor.[1][2] Raise the sale to $60 plus $8 shipping, which is $68 collected, and Depop's processing comes to about $2.69 against about $9.65 on eBay.[1][2] The gap grows with price because eBay's main fee scales with the sale while Depop's has a fixed part.
Fees are only one input. Both sites charge fees on the shipping you collect, you still pay for the label, and the same item can sell at a different price on each site. Compare what you would net, not just what you would pay.
When each fee structure fits
- Low-priced clothing you want to move: Depop's lack of a selling fee leaves more of a small sale intact, although the fixed $0.45 in processing still applies.[1]
- Items with a specific buyer searching for them: eBay's fees are higher on the page, but its listings cover most categories, in auction or fixed price.[2]
- Items outside fashion: Depop is built around fashion and vintage clothing, so a toy, a tool, or a book may sit better on eBay. Where a category has a higher eBay rate, check the table on eBay's page first.[2]
- Selling outside the US, UK, or Australia: the 10% Depop selling fee and PayPal processing apply, so rerun the numbers.[1]
For other places to sell and how their fees stack up, see where to sell used items online. If you sell on both, remove an item from one site as soon as it sells on the other.
What Strooply does, and does not do
Strooply is an app for eBay sellers. It does not list on, sync with, or track sales on Depop.[S2] On eBay, you take photos of an item, Strooply identifies it, shows live eBay listing comps, and drafts a listing that is published once you confirm it. It also tracks your profit on eBay sales.[S2] There is a free plan with no credit card, then $12.99/mo (Starter), $29.99/mo (Pro), and $79.99/mo (Team).[S1] To see the eBay half of the sample above for your own item, use the eBay fee calculator. For packing materials, see the shipping supplies guide, and for the app itself, see how Strooply works.
