Fee comparison

Poshmark fees explained, and how they compare with eBay

Poshmark takes a flat $2.95 commission on sales under $15 and 20% on sales of $15 or more, and you keep the rest.[2] eBay works differently: a final value fee of 13.6% of the total sale in most categories, plus a small per order fee.[1] This page lays the two side by side, shows sample sales at three price points, and points out what each fee is applied to. It covers fees only, not which site suits your items; for that, see the where to sell used items online roundup.

The short answer

How much does Poshmark take?

Poshmark states two cases. For a sale under $15, it takes a flat $2.95 and you keep the rest. For a sale of $15 or more, you keep 80% and Poshmark takes a 20% commission.[2] Its fee article also says that from October 1, 2025, sellers located in Texas see an additional Texas Seller Fee Tax deducted, and it links to a separate page about that tax. The article does not give the tax rate, so check Poshmark's tax page if you sell from Texas.[2]

The flat fee matters most at the low end. A $10 sale loses $2.95, which is 29.5% of the price, while a $15 sale loses $3.00, which is 20%. Right at the $15 line the commission barely moves, but below it the fee takes a larger share the lower the price is.[2]

Poshmark vs eBay fee structure

Both columns are what each company states on its own page. Numbers in brackets link to the source list at the bottom.

How each marketplace charges a seller on a sale.
FeePoshmarkeBay
Selling fee$2.95 flat under $15; 20% commission at $15 or more[2]Final value fee: 13.6% of the total amount of the sale up to $7,500 in most categories, 2.35% on the portion over $7,500[1]
Per-order feeNone described in the fee article[2]$0.30 on orders of $10.00 or less, $0.40 on orders over $10.00[1]
Listing feeNot described in the fee article[2]Up to 250 zero insertion fee listings a month, then $0.35 per listing in most categories[1]
Payment processingNot described in the fee article[2]No third-party payment processing fee; it is part of the final value fee[1]
Category differencesNone stated in the fee article[2]Yes. For example 15.3% for books, 15% for women's bags and handbags up to $2,000, and 8% on select athletic shoes at $150 or more[1]
Tax on the feeTexas sellers see an extra Texas Seller Fee Tax from October 1, 2025[2]Local tax may apply to eBay fees depending on where you live[1]

Where the Poshmark column says "not described", that is a statement about that one article, not a claim that the fee does not exist. Poshmark's article links to a longer Fee Policy, which is the place to confirm anything this page leaves open.

What the fee applies to

The base is not the same on both sites

eBay is explicit. Its final value fee is a percentage of the total amount of the sale, which includes the item price, handling charges, shipping collected from the buyer (with some exceptions), sales tax, and other applicable fees.[1] So on eBay a buyer-paid shipping charge raises the fee.

Poshmark's fee article talks about the "sale" but does not spell out whether shipping is part of that amount.[2] Because of that, the sample math below uses the item price for Poshmark, and says so. Treat it as an illustration of the stated percentages, not as a prediction of what Poshmark will deduct on your order.

Worked examples

Sample sales at three price points

These are sample numbers, not a forecast. They ignore sales tax, shipping costs you pay yourself, promotions, the Texas tax, and your cost of the item. The eBay lines assume a category at the standard 13.6% rate and a seller outside the extra performance fees.

Sample fees on three sales. All figures in US dollars, rounded to the cent.
Sample salePoshmark feeYou keep on PoshmarkeBay feeYou keep on eBay
$12 item, buyer pays $0 shipping$2.95 flat[2][1]$9.05[2][1]13.6% of $12.00 = $1.63, plus $0.40 = $2.03[2][1]$9.97[2][1]
$20 item, buyer pays $5 shipping20% of $20.00 = $4.00[2][1]$16.00[2][1]13.6% of $25.00 = $3.40, plus $0.40 = $3.80[2][1]$21.20 of the $25.00 collected[2][1]
$100 item, buyer pays $0 shipping20% of $100.00 = $20.00[2][1]$80.00[2][1]13.6% of $100.00 = $13.60, plus $0.40 = $14.00[2][1]$86.00[2][1]

Read the middle row carefully. The eBay fee there is on $25 because the buyer's shipping counts toward the total amount of the sale, and the amount you keep is out of $25, not $20. You still have to buy or print a label from that shipping money, so the two columns are not directly comparable until you add your real shipping cost. For any sale of your own, run the numbers in the eBay fee calculator.[1]

What the examples do show is the shape of the two fee models. Poshmark's cost jumps to 20% as soon as a sale reaches $15 and then stays at 20%. eBay's percentage is lower in most categories but adds a per order fee, which is why the gap is smaller on a $12 sale than on a $100 sale.[1]

Watch for

eBay charges that can apply on top

  • Category rates. Books, women's bags and handbags, jewelry, and several other categories are above or below the standard 13.6%, so check your category before you compare.[1]
  • Insertion fees. After 250 zero insertion fee listings in a month, most categories charge $0.35 per listing, and that is charged even if the item does not sell.[1]
  • Performance fees. An account evaluated as Below Standard pays an additional 6% on final value fees in the following month, and a Very High rate of "Item not as described" returns can add 5% in the affected categories.[1]
  • Optional upgrades and advertising. Listing upgrades and promoted listings carry their own costs and are not part of the figures above.[1]

On the Poshmark side, the fee article describes only the commission and the Texas tax.[2] Read Poshmark's Fee Policy and its shipping article for the full picture before you decide.

Using the numbers

How to compare for your own items

  1. Write down your planned sale price and the shipping the buyer will pay on each site.
  2. Work out the Poshmark fee: $2.95 if the sale is under $15, otherwise 20%.[2]
  3. Work out the eBay fee for your category on the total amount of the sale, then add the per order fee.
  4. Subtract what you pay for the label and packing. Our shipping supplies guide covers the packing side.
  5. Compare what is left against what you paid for the item, not just against each other.

Fees are one input. Where your buyers are, how fast an item sells, and how much effort each listing takes can matter as much as a few dollars of fee, and this page cannot tell you those.

In Strooply

What Strooply does, and does not do

Strooply is an app for eBay sellers. It does not list on, sync with, or track sales on Poshmark, so the Poshmark numbers on this page are yours to work out by hand.[S2] On eBay, you take photos of an item, Strooply identifies it, shows live eBay listing comps, and drafts a listing that is published once you confirm it. It also tracks your profit on eBay sales.[S2] There is a free plan with no credit card, then $12.99/mo (Starter), $29.99/mo (Pro), and $79.99/mo (Team).[S1] See how Strooply works for the detail.

Does Poshmark charge a listing fee?
