Comparison for eBay sellers

Strooply vs eBay's magical listing tool: what each one does for an eBay reseller

Both draft an eBay listing from photos. Strooply also drafts a shipping estimate, shows live eBay comps and tracks per-item profit; eBay's tool is built into eBay. Here is what eBay's own pages say, side by side.

Disclosure: Strooply is made by The Stroop LLC, the publisher of this page. eBay and the names of eBay's tools are trademarks of eBay Inc. Strooply is not affiliated with or endorsed by eBay. Every fact about eBay's tools comes from eBay's own pages, as of October 21, 2026, and is cited below. Features and availability change, so check eBay's pages before you decide.
The short answer

Do I need Strooply if eBay already has an AI listing tool?

eBay's tool lives inside eBay, and no eBay page we reviewed states a separate charge for it.[1][3] Strooply is a separate app. From your photos it drafts the same core fields (title, description, category, item specifics), adds a shipping box and carrier rate estimate, shows real eBay listings to compare next to an AI price estimate, and keeps your cost and profit after the sale. Both tools can be wrong, so review either draft before it goes live. Nothing stops you from using both.

The verdict

Which one should you choose?

Choose Strooply if

  • You want real eBay listings to compare, an AI price estimate and a box and carrier rate estimate next to the draft.
  • You want cost, fees, labels and refunds tracked to a net profit per item after the sale.
  • You want receipts, lots and mileage on Pro and Team plans.

Choose eBay's tool if

  • You want no extra app or account, and you already list inside eBay.
  • You list large batches from photos in Seller Hub, or raw trading cards with Scan to List.[2][5]
  • You need just the listing step, and you do not want a monthly publish cap from a third party.

Step by step

The eBay workflow: Strooply vs eBay's magical listing tool

Each row follows an item from the moment you find it to the moment its profit is recorded. Where eBay's pages do not describe a step, the cell says so rather than guessing.

Deciding what to buyPoint your phone at an item: Strooply identifies it and shows real eBay listings to compare, plus an AI price estimate, before you type anything. You set the price[S2][S3]Not described on the pages we reviewed. eBay's pages cover creating a listing, not deciding what to buy. Scan to List matches a card you scan to eBay's catalog to start a listing[5]
Creating the listingAI drafts the title, description, category, condition notes, and eBay item specifics from your photos, on every plan. Item specifics are cross-checked against comparable listings[S1][S2]In the eBay app, you add photos and a title and the AI suggests product details, categories, and item specifics, per eBay[1]. A separate "Use AI description" option writes a description, which you can use as is, edit, or build on[4]. In Seller Hub, "Multiple listings from photos" drafts listings from batches of photos, and eBay says it prefills values when it is confident there is a match[3]
Reviewing before it goes liveThe draft is never published automatically. a caption tells you the content is AI-generated and to review it, and nothing publishes until you tap Publish[S2]eBay says sellers review and approve the suggestions in the app[1] and review bulk drafts before publishing[2]
PublishingIn the Strooply app, after you review, Strooply publishes through eBay's API with your business policies[S2]Publishes inside eBay. For bulk drafts, shipping, return, and payment settings are copied from your latest listing in the same category and can be changed[3]
Shipping box and rateMatches a box from your saved boxes and estimates USPS, UPS, and FedEx rates[S2]Not described on the pages we reviewed. eBay's 2023 post said a shipping cost was planned for the photo version[6]
Knowing your real profitSyncs eBay final value fees, ad fees, shipping labels, and refunds, and subtracts your cost of goods, for net profit per item[S1][S2]Not described on the pages we reviewed for the listing tool
Mileage, receipts, and tax summarySourcing trips, mileage, receipt scanning, and an estimated tax summary on Pro and Team[S1]Not described on the pages we reviewed for the listing tool
Working from your phoneStrooply is a native iPhone and Android app, and publishing happens in the app[S2]The single-item flow is in the eBay mobile app in the US, UK, and Germany, for private sellers[1]. Bulk listing is on the Seller Hub website and mobile web, not the app[3]
Price and free optionFree plan with no credit card, then $12.99/mo (Starter), $29.99/mo (Pro), $79.99/mo (Team)[S1]No separate charge is described on the pages we reviewed[1][3][4]. Normal eBay selling fees still apply
Listing volumeMonthly publishes and lookups by plan: 5 and 15 on Free, 100 and 500 on Starter, 250 and 1.25k on Pro, 1k and 5k on Team[S1]eBay says its bulk tool can process hundreds of photos per batch[2]. No monthly publish cap is described on the pages we reviewed
Where Strooply stands out

What Strooply adds around the listing

  • A draft you review, with an AI-generated caption, and no publishing until you tap Publish.[S2]
  • Item specifics: eBay's required aspects plus recommended ones, cross-checked against comparable listings.[S2]
  • Defect wording: when your notes mention a flaw, the draft uses cautious wording such as "For parts" or "Untested" and avoids "Complete" or "Sealed".
  • A box and carrier estimate matched to the boxes you own.
  • One record from draft to net profit, so cost, fees, labels, and refunds sit next to the item.[S1]
  • Receipts, lots, and mileage on Pro and Team.[S1]

Where Strooply has limits

Strooply publishes from its iPhone and Android app, not from a website, and you review every draft before it goes live. Monthly publishes and lookups are capped by plan, so a very large batch may need a higher plan. The price is an AI estimate shown next to real eBay listings to compare, and you set the final price. It is an estimate, so check a few recent sold listings on eBay for anything valuable.

Where eBay's tool is strong

It is built into the place you already list, with no extra app or account, and eBay's pages describe flows for single items, batches of photos, and trading cards.[1][3][5]

Fair to eBay

eBay's tool may be the better choice if

  • You want no extra app or account, and you already list inside eBay.
  • You list large batches from photos in Seller Hub. eBay says its bulk tool can process hundreds of photos per batch, and the 2024 announcement named sports trading cards first.[2] A later eBay announcement describes it for US sellers in all categories on desktop and mobile web.[3]
  • You list raw Pokemon, Magic: The Gathering, or Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. eBay's Scan to List, in the eBay app, matches a scanned card to eBay's catalog, and eBay says listings can go 50% faster for those cards.[5] That figure is eBay's claim, and the page does not say how it was measured.
  • You need just the listing step and do not track cost or profit in an app.
  • You do not want a monthly publish cap from a third party.
Worth knowing

Worth knowing about eBay's tool

Availability and scope, per eBay: eBay's April 2025 post describes the app flow in the US, UK, and Germany for private sellers, with business sellers planned and no date given.[1] It also quotes a UK test with a 50% reduction in the total steps needed to list, which is eBay's own claim.[1] We found no accuracy figure for eBay's tool from eBay or from independent testers, and Strooply publishes none for its own. The bulk announcement is undated, so we cite it as eBay's announcement.[3] eBay's pages change often, so confirm what you can use in your own account.

Your choice

If you want to list without AI

eBay's pages describe the AI description as something you choose to use: you can use it as written, edit it, or write your own.[4] The bulk announcement says the bulk tool is optional and the standard "Multiple listings" option is still there.[3] For anything else, such as turning off a suggestion in the app, we found no eBay page to cite, so check eBay's help. If you list by hand, the eBay listing checklist lists what to include. In Strooply you can edit every field of a draft before it publishes.

Using both

How to use both

  • Use eBay's tool where it fits your workflow, such as a batch of photos in Seller Hub or a raw card, and use Strooply for the items where you want comps, a shipping estimate, and tracked profit.
  • Review every draft from either tool: check the title, condition, flaws, and item specifics against the item in your hand.
  • Check a few recent sold listings on eBay before you set a price, whichever tool suggested one.
  • Compare other options in apps to price thrift finds for eBay, or read how a general chatbot differs in Strooply vs general AI assistants. For the steps Strooply follows, see how Strooply works, or browse all comparisons.
Questions

Strooply vs eBay's magical listing tool FAQ

What is eBay's magical listing tool?

It is eBay's name for its AI listing features. eBay announced it in September 2023 as an AI description written from a title, with a photo version in beta.[6] Later eBay posts describe a photo-first flow in the eBay app[1] and a bulk "Multiple listings from photos" option in Seller Hub.[3]

Does it cost anything?

No separate charge is described on the eBay pages we reviewed, and normal eBay selling fees still apply.[1][3][4] Strooply has a free plan with no credit card and paid plans from $12.99 per month.

Is eBay's magical listing tool accurate?

We found no published accuracy rate from eBay or from independent testers. Both tools can be wrong, so review any AI draft, from eBay or Strooply, before it goes live.

Why is the magical listing tool not working for me?

We cannot tell from outside your account. Availability depends on your country, account type, and where you list, per eBay,[1][3] so start with eBay's help pages or customer support.

Can I list on eBay without AI?

eBay's AI description is an option you can edit or skip, and the bulk tool is optional.[3][4] In Strooply, every field of a draft is editable before you publish.

Can I use both?

Yes. Nothing about either tool prevents you from using the other. Strooply publishes through eBay's API after you review the draft, and eBay's tool works inside eBay.
