How to change your eBay username (user ID).
Yes, you can change it, but eBay lets you do it only once every 30 days. Your feedback score and account history move to the new name, and your old name is held back from other members for 30 days. Here is where to change it, which names are allowed, and what to check before you do.

Can you change your eBay name?
Your eBay username is the same thing as your user ID. eBay describes it as the unique name you picked when you created the account, and the name other members see when you buy or sell with them.1 You can change it in the personal information section of My eBay, or with the Change your username button in eBay's own help article.1 The limit is one change every 30 days.1
People search for this in several ways: change name on eBay, change eBay user ID, can you change your eBay name. If you mean the name shown on your account, the username is the one eBay lets you change this way. The other names on an eBay account are separate, as the next section explains.
Username, account name, business details and Store name
An eBay account can carry more than one name, and they are changed in different places.
| Name | What it is | Where to change it |
|---|---|---|
| Username (user ID) | The unique name other members see when you buy or sell1 | Personal information in My eBay, or eBay's Change your username button, once every 30 days1 |
| Account name | The name on the account, listed with your date of birth, phone, address and email as personal information2 | Account section of My eBay, then Personal information, then Edit2 |
| Store name | The name of your eBay Store, which is its own setting3 | Seller Hub, though eBay advises against changing it3 |
eBay's help does not describe a separate display name for the username, so we do not either. The Personal information page also has a Public business info section, which eBay's article mentions in connection with a public business phone number.2 Treat that as business contact details, not as a way to rename your username.
Changing the account name has a payout consequence for sellers. eBay says that if you are a seller changing the name on your account, the new name needs to match the name on your registered bank account so you can receive payouts.2 That is a different job from renaming the username, which does not touch your payout details.
How to change your eBay username
- Sign in to eBay in a web browser.
- Go to the Account section of My eBay and open Personal information.2 You can also reach the change page from the Change your username button on eBay's help article.1
- Pick the new username, checking it against the rules in the next section before you submit.
- Follow the prompts on eBay's page to save the change. eBay's own steps and wording can shift, so go by what the page shows.
- Wait before you try again. After a change you cannot change the username again for 30 days.1
About the app: eBay's help article names the personal information section of My eBay and the button, and does not describe separate steps in the eBay app. We have not checked the app ourselves, so we do not give app steps. If you only have the app, look in your account settings for the same Personal information wording, or use a browser.

The rules for a new username
eBay's username policy sets the limits. Choose a name that fits all of these before you submit it.
- Length: 6 to 64 characters, with no spaces or tabs.4
- Allowed characters: letters, numbers and four symbols, the star (*), hyphen (-), dot (.) and underscore (_).4
- Not allowed: a leading underscore, hyphen or dot, consecutive underscores, a phone number, a name that is entirely numeric, the letter e followed by numbers, and the word eBay.4
- Not allowed: anything that implies an email or web address, such as .com, .net or .org, and a name that is the same as your email ID.4
- Not allowed: offensive language, and a third party's trademark or brand, or a term that could be confused with one. eBay's own example is CocaColaSeller.4
- Not allowed: the same name as another seller, or one similar to an eBay Store name.4
One allowance matters for businesses. A username can include an element of a web address that identifies you or your brand. If your site is www.mikes_bikes.com, eBay says mikes_bikes is acceptable.4 A Store name is looser than a username: eBay notes that Store names can contain spaces and some symbols such as &.4
The policy also covers older accounts. If your current username was registered after November 2001 and is, or looks like, an email address or web address, eBay says you must change it to comply.4
What happens to feedback, history and your old name
- Everywhere on eBay. Your new username automatically replaces the old one wherever it appears.1
- Feedback and account history. Your member and account information, including your feedback score, is transferred to the new username.1 Feedback is shown on your feedback profile, which lists your score, percent positive, recent feedback and registration date.5
- Your old name. No one else on eBay can use your old username for 30 days.1 eBay's help articles do not say what happens to the old name after those 30 days, so we do not predict it. Do not count on getting it back.
- A marker. An icon appears next to your username for 30 days after you change it.1
Buyers who knew you by the old name may need a moment to recognise the new one. That is the reason for eBay's own warning, covered next.
What to check first, especially for a business
eBay asks you to think carefully. Other buyers and sellers may not be able to find you as easily after a change, and your username, together with your feedback profile, represents your reputation. eBay suggests picking a name you want to keep long term.1 Because you can only change it once in 30 days, a rushed pick is awkward to undo. eBay gives that limit as protection against confusion for other members and against fraud.4
eBay does not publish separate rules for business accounts. A business account follows the same username policy and the same 30-day limit as any other. If you sell under a brand, run through this list first:
- Trademarks. Search the new name for anyone else's brand. The policy bars names that could be confused with a third party's trademark.4
- Your Store name. The username cannot be similar to an eBay Store name, and a Store name cannot be another member's username or misleadingly similar to one.4,3 If you want the two to match, decide the username first.
- Links and bookmarks you control. eBay says renaming a Store breaks marketing links and bookmarks buyers made.3 eBay's username article does not say which links change with a username, so open your saved Seller Hub bookmarks, social posts, packing inserts and any link you gave to a customer after the change and make sure they still work.
- Saved sellers and outside tools. Buyers who saved you, and any tool that stored your old name as text, may show the old name until updated. See the Strooply section below for how Strooply handles it.
- Packaging and print. Labels, invoices, business cards and shipping inserts that print your username need updating by hand.
The username is not your cost of doing business, but changing it can ripple through packing materials. If you plan to reprint inserts or labels, price them in the shipping supplies guide, and keep your margins visible in the eBay fee calculator.
How to find your own eBay user ID
The Personal information section of My eBay is where eBay points you to change your username, so it is the place to look for your current one.1 To see what buyers see, open one of your own listings and look at the Seller Information section, which shows the seller's username and feedback score.6 The number in brackets beside a username is that member's feedback score, and selecting it opens their feedback profile.7
This page is about your own account. If you are trying to look up someone else's username or user ID, see how to find a seller on eBay. For feedback itself, see how to leave feedback on eBay.
If the change does not go through
- You changed it recently. The 30-day limit applies. Wait until the 30 days have passed.1
- The name is rejected. Check it against the rules above: length, characters, no web address endings, no trademarks, and not similar to a Store name.4
- The name you want is taken. Usernames are unique, and a released name is held for 30 days before anyone else can use it.1
- You cannot find the option. Use the Change your username button on eBay's help article, or open Personal information in the Account section of My eBay.1,2
- You cannot sign in. eBay's policy page links to its sign-in help for people who cannot remember a username or password.4
Changing your eBay username questions
Can you change your eBay name?

How often can I change my eBay username?
Once every 30 days.1
Will I lose my feedback if I change my username?
No. eBay says your member and account information, including your feedback score, is transferred to the new username.1
Can I change my eBay user ID in the app?
eBay's help article names the personal information section of My eBay and a button, and does not describe app steps. Use a browser if you cannot find the option in the app.1
What characters can an eBay username use?
Letters, numbers, and the symbols star, hyphen, dot and underscore, with 6 to 64 characters and no spaces.4
Can someone else take my old username?
Not for 30 days. eBay says no one else can use your old username during that time.1
Is changing my Store name the same as changing my username?
No. The Store name is changed in Seller Hub, and eBay advises against it because buyers' links and bookmarks stop working.3
Strooply and a renamed eBay account
Strooply does not change your eBay username, and it does not read or edit your Store name. It connects to your eBay account so sales and eBay charges can sync for profit tracking. See how Strooply works.
When you connect eBay, Strooply records two things that eBay supplies: the account's username and a separate account identifier. When eBay sends Strooply a notification about your account, such as a revoked connection or a data deletion request, Strooply matches it to your account by that identifier and not by the username. It refuses to route such a notification on a username alone, because a username can change and be reused by someone else. In practice that means a rename on its own should not stop those notifications from reaching the right Strooply account.
Two honest limits. First, the username Strooply stored when you connected may still be the old one until it is refreshed, so do not be surprised if you see the old name anywhere it is shown. Second, we have not tested every sync path after a rename. If Strooply shows an error on your eBay connection or sales stop syncing after you change your username, reconnect your eBay account in Strooply.
Check comps and estimated profit, then review the draft before you list
Strooply is an app for eBay resellers that identifies items from photos, shows live comps and sold-price estimates, drafts eBay listings for your review, and tracks costs and profit.
