What is Terapeak? eBay's Product research, explained.
Terapeak is the name many sellers still use for eBay's Product research tool. Here is what it shows, how far back it goes, who can use it, and where its results can mislead you.

Terapeak is eBay's own sales research tool
Many sellers still say Terapeak, and the tool is now called Product research, which eBay lists among its seller research tools.1 It searches eBay's own sales history, so the numbers come from eBay marketplace sales and not from a third party's sample.2
That makes it the first free place to check what an item sold for, how often it sells and what shipping looked like. If you are comparing it with other price lookup tools, our free WorthPoint alternatives guide sets it beside eBay's sold search and AI chatbots.

Where Terapeak lives in eBay
eBay says sellers with access to Seller Hub can use Product research from the Research tab and from the mobile apps.2 In a US seller account we found it under the Research tab in Seller Hub.3 eBay's seller pages describe the research tools as free to all sellers.1
Access has conditions. In the eBay app, eBay's seller update says you need at least one active listing or a sale in the last 90 days.4 If you have never listed, start with eBay's regular sold search, covered in how to see sold listings on eBay.
The figures Product research returns
eBay's help page lists these among the results a search can show:2
- Average sold price and the sold price range.
- Average shipping cost and how many listings offered free shipping.
- Sell through rate, for searches of items sold 90 days ago or less.
- The price an item actually sold for, even when a Best Offer was accepted.
The last item is the one regular sold search cannot give you, because the website's sold results do not show the price a Best Offer was accepted at.5
Three years of history, with a date range you choose
Product research searches the last 3 years of eBay sales data, and you can choose any length of time within that window.2 Completed listings on eBay's search cover a much shorter window: eBay says those results include only listings that ended sold in the previous 90 days.2
The longer window matters most for slow items and seasonal ones. A rare lens may sell twice a year, and a winter coat sells in winter. Three months of data can show you nothing for either, while a year or more shows the pattern.
Where Terapeak results can mislead you
eBay says results generally have to match your keywords and filters exactly, and that some listings may be unavailable if eBay or the seller removed them.2 Three habits help, and they are our suggestions, not eBay rules:
- Try several phrasings. Sellers title the same item differently, so a model number, a nickname and a brand plus type can each return different sales.
- Check condition and lots. An average that mixes new, used and multi item lots is not the price of your item. The guide to reading sold prices covers this.
- Look at the sample size. An average of two sales is a hint, not a price.
It also only knows about eBay. If your item mainly sells at auction houses or in private sales, the history can be thin.
Turn the number into a buy limit
A sold price is not profit. Take off eBay fees, shipping and what you paid in the eBay fee and profit calculator, and check how often it sells with the sell through rate calculator. Packing costs belong in the plan too, and the shipping supplies guide helps with those.

Where Strooply fits next to Product research
Product research is eBay's own sales history, and for a sold price on an item you can already name, it is the better source. Strooply covers the steps around it. Take a photo and Strooply identifies the item and pulls live eBay listings for the same thing, so you do not have to build the search yourself. Its sold-price figure is labeled as live eBay data, saved data with its age, or an AI estimate when no sold history exists. An AI estimate is a guess drawn from the item details, not a record of sales, so check Product research for the real history when the item is worth it. See how Strooply works.
Check comps and estimated profit, then review the draft before you list
Strooply is an app for eBay resellers that identifies items from photos, shows live comps and sold-price estimates, drafts eBay listings for your review, and tracks costs and profit.
