eBay selling guide

How to see sold listings on eBay, and what the results leave out.

Sold listings, sometimes called past sales or completed sales, show what buyers actually paid, not what sellers hope for. Here is how to find them, how far back they go, and the gaps to know about before you trust a number.

Step by step

Finding sold listings on ebay.com

  1. Sign in to your eBay account. When we checked, a signed out visitor who chose the sold option was sent to the sign in page.1
  2. Search for the item with the words a seller would use: brand, model, size and color.
  3. Choose the sold option from the search filters, then scan the results for items that ended with a sale.
  4. Open a few results to check condition, what was included and the shipping charge.

The exact wording and position of filters change over time, so look for the sold option in the filters on your own screen. eBay says its completed listings results include only listings that ended sold in the previous 90 days.2

What is missing

Three gaps in the sold results

  • Only 90 days. A rare item may have one sale in that window, or none.
  • Best Offer prices. Regular sold search does not display the price a Best Offer was accepted at, so a listed price can overstate what the buyer paid.1
  • Mixed items. Lots, parts and different conditions can sit in one results page. Compare like with like, as covered in reading sold prices correctly.
A longer view

When 90 days is not enough

eBay's Product research, which many sellers still call Terapeak, searches the last 3 years of eBay sales data and shows the price an item actually sold for even when a Best Offer was accepted.2 eBay says sellers with access to Seller Hub can use it from the Research tab and from the mobile apps.2 In the eBay app, eBay's seller update says you need at least one active listing or a sale in the last 90 days.3

Sold or active

Why sold results beat active listings

Active listings are asking prices. Some are priced high and never sell, which is why a page of active listings can make an item look worth more than it is. Sold listings are completed sales. The ratio of the two is the sell through rate, and you can work it out from the counts with the sell through rate calculator.

After the search

From sold price to what you can pay

Put the sold price into the eBay fee and profit calculator with shipping, supplies and your cost, or use the max buy price calculator to work backward from the price. Plan the packing cost with the shipping supplies guide. If you are standing in a store, the barcode scanning guide is the faster route.

Questions

Sold listings questions

How far back do eBay sold listings go?

eBay says completed listings results include only listings that ended sold in the previous 90 days. Product research covers 3 years.2

How do I see past sales on eBay?

Search for the item while signed in and choose the sold option in the filters. That covers about the last 90 days. For up to 3 years of past sales, use Product research in Seller Hub.1,2

Do I need to be signed in to see sold listings?

When we checked, choosing the sold option while signed out sent the visitor to sign in.1

Why does a sold price look higher than similar items?

A Best Offer may have been accepted. Regular sold search does not show that price, while Product research does.1,2

Is there a free way to see older sales?

eBay's seller pages describe Product research as free to all sellers with Seller Hub access.4

In Strooply

Comps without building the search

Strooply takes a photo, identifies the item and pulls live eBay listings for the same thing, so you have comps to compare without typing the search. Its sold-price figure is labeled: live eBay data when recent sales are available, saved data shown with its age, or an AI estimate when there is no sold history. An AI estimate is a guess from the item details, not a record of sales, and it can come back unavailable. See how Strooply works.

Check comps and estimated profit, then review the draft before you list

Strooply is an app for eBay resellers that identifies items from photos, shows live comps and sold-price estimates, drafts eBay listings for your review, and tracks costs and profit.
