What these tables leave out
- Shipping and sales tax. eBay charges its fee on the total sale, including the shipping the buyer pays and sales tax, so both raise the fee.
- Promoted Listings. A general campaign adds your ad rate on the total sale. See what an ad costs with the Promoted Listings calculator.
- Seller level. Top Rated Plus listings get a discount; Below Standard sellers pay extra.
- International buyers. An extra fee applies when the order is not shipped with eBay International Shipping.
- Your own costs. What you paid for the item, the shipping label, and supplies come out of what you get. The fee and profit calculator includes them.

Questions about what eBay takes
How much does eBay take from a $100 sale?
In most categories, without an eBay Store, eBay takes $14.00 from a $100.00 sale with free shipping and no sales tax: $13.60 final value fee plus a $0.40 per-order fee. You get $86.00 before your own costs.
How much does eBay take from a $1,000 sale?
In most categories without a Store, eBay takes $136.40 from a $1,000.00 sale with free shipping and no sales tax, which leaves $863.60. Some categories charge less on expensive items, such as watches, jewelry, and athletic shoes.
Are eBay fees 15%?
Not in most categories. Most items pay 13.6% up to $7,500, then 2.35% on the portion over $7,500, plus the per-order fee. Books, movies, and music pay 15.3% up to $7,500, then 2.35% on the portion over $7,500. With the per-order fee, the share eBay takes is higher on cheap items: 16.6% of a $10.00 sale, against 14.0% of a $100.00 sale.
Does eBay take fees on shipping and sales tax?
Yes. The final value fee is charged on the total sale: the item price, shipping charged to the buyer, and sales tax. A $100.00 item with $10.00 shipping and 8% sales tax is a $118.80 total sale. eBay charges its fee on that whole amount, so it takes $16.56, and you get $93.44 of the $110.00 you charged.
Does an eBay Store lower the fees?
A Basic or higher Store lowers the final value fee in many categories (the table above shows the difference on a $100.00 sale), but the Store has a monthly price. The eBay Store break-even calculator shows how many sales a month it takes to pay for itself.
Where do these numbers come from?
They are computed from eBay's US selling fee pages, last checked on October 25, 2026, by the same engine as the fee calculator. They leave out insertion fees, optional listing upgrades, Promoted Listings, and seller level changes. Use the calculator for your own sale.
