How to revise or remove eBay feedback.
A buyer cannot simply edit feedback once it is posted, and a seller cannot edit it at all. There are two routes that work: the seller sends a feedback revision request and the buyer chooses to change their rating, or eBay removes feedback that breaks its policy. This guide covers both, from the buyer's side and the seller's side.

What you can and cannot change
- Buyer, you left feedback and regret it. You cannot edit or delete it yourself. You can add one follow-up comment, or ask the seller to send you a feedback revision request.1
- Seller, you received feedback you want changed. Contact the buyer, fix the problem if you can, then send a feedback revision request. The buyer decides.2
- Seller, the feedback breaks eBay's rules. Ask eBay to look at it through Seller Help and request removal.3
- Nobody can change the words of someone else's feedback directly. A reply from the seller sits underneath it and does not alter it.2
How to change feedback you left
Every piece of feedback you have left for a seller is listed in your feedback profile. Once it is posted you cannot edit or delete it. The only way to have it changed is a revision request from the seller.1 Here is the order to try things in.
- Contact the seller. If an order went wrong, eBay suggests working it out with the seller before leaving feedback, and the same goes after.4 Message them, explain what you would like to change and ask them to send a feedback revision request.1
- Watch your email. When the seller sends the request, eBay emails you the details.4
- Select Accept request in the email. eBay then guides you through changing your rating and comment. Your original comments are no longer visible once you revise.4
- Or select Decline request. Give a reason, or select I don't want to share the reason with the seller to keep it private.4
You have 10 days from receiving the request to respond. If you do nothing, the request expires and the feedback stays exactly as it was.4
Add a follow-up comment instead
If you only want to add context, a follow-up is simpler. You can leave one per item.1
- Go to Feedback left for others.
- Select Follow up next to the item number.
- Write your comment and select Leave Follow-up Comment.1
A follow-up does not change your original comment or rating. And once you have left positive feedback, you cannot change it to neutral or negative.1
How to ask a buyer to revise feedback
eBay's advice is to contact the buyer first and try to settle the specific problem. If you manage that, you can ask them to reconsider their rating and comment.2 eBay lists three typical reasons a seller asks: the issue was beyond your control, you have since resolved it, or you think the buyer overlooked information.4
The limits eBay states
- The feedback must be less than 30 days old.2
- You can send 5 revision requests per calendar year, plus 5 more for every 1,000 feedback ratings you receive during that year.2
- The buyer has 10 days to accept or decline. If they do not respond, the request expires.2
Because the number of requests is limited, save them for cases where you have actually fixed something, such as a refund or a replacement, rather than sending one for every unhappy buyer. Check eBay's help page for the current limits before you rely on these numbers.2
What happens next
The buyer gets an email with the details of your request. If they accept, eBay walks them through changing their rating and comment, and their original comments are no longer visible. If they decline, they choose whether to tell you why.2 Either way, a buyer is free to leave it unchanged, so keep your message polite and specific: say what you did to put things right and ask, without pressure or any offer in return.

When eBay removes feedback
Removal is a separate route from revision, and it is based on eBay's Feedback policy, not on whether you disagree with the buyer. eBay says it cannot contradict a buyer's opinion or judgment of an item.3 It uses automation to remove feedback that breaks the policy, and it can review unclear cases manually when you request removal through Seller Help. Depending on the case, it may remove the comment, the ratings, the images, or a combination.3
| Type | Examples from the policy |
|---|---|
| Harmful or irrelevant content | Threats, hateful or explicit content, political or religious opinions, personal information, links that push sales outside eBay, comments meant for another item or seller, and personal attacks that are not constructive criticism |
| Mismatched rating and comment | A negative comment with a positive rating, or a positive comment with a negative rating |
| Extortion or manipulation | Feedback used to extort another member or to manipulate ratings |
| Buyer-related issues | The buyer asked to cancel, the order was canceled over a buyer address problem or non-payment, or the issue was correctly disclosed in the listing |
| Delivery issues | Tracking shows delivery and handling time expectations were met, or a natural disaster, unexpected event or customs issue outside the seller's control caused the problem |
| Returns issues | A change-of-mind return was declined because the listing offered no returns, or the buyer changed their mind and owed the return label cost |
| eBay site or program issues | A technical fault eBay can identify, or a Money Back Guarantee case closed with the seller having met their obligations |
The table is a summary. The policy page lists more conditions under each heading, so read it before you request removal.3 For the buyer, delivery, returns and site categories, eBay says it removes neutral or negative feedback when it can see facts that match, such as tracking data.3
If a buyer raised several topics and only part of the comment breaks the policy, eBay may invite the buyer to revise it so it can be published. Both the buyer and the seller then get an email explaining the next steps.3
How a seller requests removal
- Compare the feedback against the policy table above and the full Feedback policy page. Be honest about whether it actually fits a category.
- Contact eBay through Seller Help and choose the option to request feedback removal. eBay's help pages show this as a Request feedback removal option under Contact us.3
- Make the request within 90 days of the transaction.3
- Wait for the email. If the feedback qualifies, eBay emails you and removes it from your account within 24 hours. If it cannot be removed, eBay explains why the feedback is allowed under its policy.3
Removal is not automatic just because a request was made, and eBay does not promise to remove everything a seller dislikes. The exact screens inside Seller Help can change, so follow the prompts on your own account.
Handling a negative review well
Some feedback will stay. eBay notes that buyers do not expect to see 100% positive feedback and that receiving negative or neutral feedback does not affect your seller performance.3 What buyers do look for is how you handled the problem.
- Fix the problem first. Message the buyer, offer a refund, return or replacement where it is fair, and keep the conversation on eBay.
- Reply publicly. In your feedback profile, find the feedback and select Reply on the right. Your reply appears directly beneath the buyer's comment. You get one reply per comment, and you cannot edit or retract it, so read it twice before sending.2
- Stay factual. Say what happened and what you did about it, in a sentence or two. Do not argue, name the buyer's personal details or link anywhere else.
- Then ask, once. If the buyer is now satisfied, a revision request is appropriate. Do not request one in exchange for anything.
It also helps to prevent repeat cases: accurate item descriptions, honest condition notes and good packing supplies avoid many of the complaints that become feedback. If a buyer is repeatedly causing problems, see our guide to blocking a buyer on eBay. And if a refund is part of the fix, check what it costs you with the eBay fee calculator before you agree.
Revising and removing feedback questions
Can I edit feedback I left on eBay?
Not directly. Once feedback is posted you cannot edit or delete it, unless the seller sends you a feedback revision request. You can also add one follow-up comment per item.1
How do I send an eBay feedback revision request?
As a seller, send it from your feedback profile after you have contacted the buyer and tried to resolve the issue. The buyer then gets an email and has 10 days to accept or decline.2
How many feedback revision requests can I send?
eBay states 5 per calendar year, plus 5 more for every 1,000 feedback ratings you receive that year. The feedback must be less than 30 days old.2
What happens if the buyer ignores a revision request?
It expires after 10 days and the feedback is not changed.4
Can I change positive feedback to negative?
No. After you leave positive feedback for a seller, you cannot change it to neutral or negative.1
How do I get negative feedback removed on eBay?
Only if it breaks eBay's Feedback policy. Request removal through Seller Help within 90 days of the transaction, and eBay will either remove it or explain why it is allowed.3
How long does eBay take to remove feedback?
If the feedback qualifies, eBay says it is removed from your account within 24 hours and you get an email. eBay does not state a time for cases it decides to decline.3
Does negative feedback hurt my seller performance?
eBay says receiving negative or neutral feedback does not affect seller performance.3
Seeing feedback next to the sale
Strooply does not revise, edit, request or remove feedback, and it does not send revision requests. Those all happen on eBay. What it does do is show feedback on a sold item: when eBay reports feedback for a sale, the sale summary shows a Positive, Neutral or Negative badge and the buyer's comment, and the badge opens the seller's eBay feedback profile. That makes it easier to spot a negative one while you are reviewing the sale and its profit. If a buyer later revises their feedback on eBay, treat eBay as the record. See how Strooply works.
Check comps and estimated profit, then review the draft before you list
Strooply is an app for eBay resellers that identifies items from photos, shows live comps and sold-price estimates, drafts eBay listings for your review, and tracks costs and profit.
